5 questions with a creator - Meet Frankie from Glow Studios
"The mission was clear to me; to create colourful, fun and inclusive content that made people feel confident about themselves."
Meet Frankie - our retro fitness loving Boon creator from Glow studios.
Since Frankie was 6 years old, she’s been obsessed with the vibrancy, colour and craziness of the 80’s and 90’s fitness dance movement. She’s made her passion her living as the founder at Glow Studios, the UK based retro fitness & dance studio.
Glow creates retro dance and fitness experiences for teams, parties, brands and events, and now virtually on Boon. With 7 live classes a week on a membership or pay per view basis, her members can work up a retro sweat whenever and wherever they are.
Read on to hear Frankie’ story and her words of inspiration for fellow creators.
1. Tell us the story behind your business. How and why did you get into your field?
The story behind the business starts with a 6 year old Frankie with an obsession with John Travolta and the big dance movies from the 70’s & 80’s (Saturday Night Fever, Staying Alive, Perfect, Grease, etc.) My Mum also took me to her Commercial Jazz dance class at Pineapple in 1990 and I was in heaven.
I knew I wanted to dance and create colourful content from that moment onwards. I've always loved the vibrancy, colour and craziness of the 80’s fitness and dance movement, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it somehow.
The mission was clear to me; to create colourful, fun and inclusive content that made people feel confident about themselves. To create a world where people lose themselves in the retro themes and music, and smile the entire time!
2. Who's your personal role model or hero? Can you tell us a bit about why you admire them?
My idol is Mr JT himself, John Travolta. He inspired me to start to dance. I was obsessed! I studied his moves and I was in awe of his talent. He also has a kindness and innocence in his eyes. I love him!
3. Do you have a personal motto or manifesto that you live your life by? Or a favorite quote?
Not a favourite quote as such. I just try to remember to not give a sh** what people think. There will be peeps along the way that will put you down, or be bitchy, or mean for no reason. Never understood that way of being, but it can definitely have an affect.
Just have to keep your eye on the prize and surround yourself with people who believe in you, e.g. my fabulous team of instructors who all love the brand and believe in the mission.
4. Can you share a fun or quirky fact about yourself that not a lot of people know - or maybe wouldn't expect? :-)
I am a CLEAN FREAK. Like, obsessed with cleaning. Some would say maybe borderline OCD? Who knows. It helps me to feel centered and controlled in a world full of chaos. I'd say hoovering and sweeping are my favourites!
5. If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to yourself as a young creator? Any advice for other creators who are just getting started on Boon?
If I had advice for a young me I'd say 'keep your eye on the prize and don't let anyone get in your way. Persistence is key!'
Anyone just starting on Boon I'd say 'give it all you got in your videos, because you only have a small amount of time to hook people in! So you gotta give it your all and then some’ :)
